WASTE & TRAP

Food scraps stop at the bowl instead of collecting in the pipe

A blocked pipe and a smell coming back up the drain share one cause: the scraps that got past the waste. Every sink in the BSQ series therefore ships with a 3.5-inch Big Basket waste, which has a food-waste basket built into it, 73 mm across and 40 mm deep, that lifts out to empty and drops back in. A waste pipe and trap are included with every model too: the two-bowl BSQ822 takes the P32PP, the single-bowl models the P31PP.

On this series the odour seal is in the supplied trap, not in the waste fitting itself. If you want the seal built into the fitting, that is the 4-inch MN or 4.5-inch ML waste, which belongs to a different group of sinks. The Big Basket waste is also sold separately, in stainless steel and in Grey Metal.

R5 CORNER

Rounded corners, so the cloth reaches everywhere

A square bowl gives you more usable space than a curved one, but it brings sharp corners with it, and a sharp corner is where the grime settles and the sponge cannot reach. The BSQ series therefore gives the bowl R5 rounded corners: round enough that a sponge sweeps right into the bottom of the corner in one pass, while the bowl keeps its crisp square shape for a modern kitchen.

Cut-out sizes differ from model to model, so check the figure for the model you choose on its product page before the worktop is cut. An undermount sink should be fitted by an experienced installer, since it has to be held up underneath the worktop.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which size to get
Start by measuring the inside width of the cabinet the sink will sit in, then compare it with the furniture cutout size printed on every product page. This category runs from 32x38 cm up to 82.5x40.5 cm. The rule is simple: the cutout has to be narrower than the inside of the cabinet, and enough stone has to be left for your fabricator to clamp the sink and build the support frame under the worktop. The catalogue does not set that clearance, so let your fabricator decide it. Send them the product page of the model you like before you order, and if anything is unclear call us first on 02-493-6565.
Will my worktop take this kind of sink
The short version is that the worktop has to carry the weight of the sink plus the water in it from underneath, because this group is clamped under the stone rather than resting on top of it. Thick stone or engineered stone with a support frame underneath works well. If the worktop is a material that dislikes moisture along a cut edge, laminate over plywood for example, ask the maker to confirm how they seal the cut and carry the load first. The catalogue does not state worktop thickness, the fixing method or the size of the support frame, so leave those to your fabricator or let the MEX team look at the site. If the worktop was never built to carry weight from below, there are 48 more models in the drop-in category.
Is it hard to clean, do I need to scrub
No scrubbing. A sponge and ordinary washing-up liquid, then wipe it dry after every use. Those pale marks everyone worries about come from letting water dry on the steel, not from the sink itself. Keep steel wool and anything strongly chlorinated or acidic away from it, and do not leave cast iron soaking overnight. The part worth watching is the silicone line between the sink and the underside of the worktop: wipe it dry, keep an eye on whether it is still sound, and call a fitter to redo it when it starts to go. The strainer basket just needs tapping out and rinsing once a day.
Something went wrong after fitting, who do I call
Call us. MEX has service centres nationwide on 02-493-6565, with people who can help on sizing, the worktop cutout and undermount fitting. Genuine parts are stocked too, including the 3.5 inch waste, the strainer basket and the drain pipe with its P-trap, and you can order replacements straight from a service centre. For the warranty terms on a particular model, ask a service centre or the dealer you bought it from.
