MEX Standing Sinks The back kitchen never gets its own project. No builder to book, no budget to wait for. Stand it, plumb it, wash tonight. It arrives ready A kitchen sink is wet more or less permanently, so the grade of the steel is the thing to settle before anything else. The bowl on every model in this range is AISI 304 stainless, a grade that resists corrosion better than the ones below it. Bowl thickness runs from 0.5 to 0.8 mm depending on the model, with the PSL63 the thickest at 0.8 mm. The AISI 304 grade quoted here is the grade of the bowl. The shelf, the guard rail and the stand are made from different stainless grades, listed separately on the product page of the model you are looking at. When a waste starts to smell or clog, the usual answer is to get underneath and take the pipework apart. The 4.5-inch ML Basket supplied with the sinks in this range is built so you do not have to: the odour seal is inside the fitting itself, there is an overflow, a large fine-mesh basket that catches food waste properly, and a section that opens so the dirt inside can be washed out without dismantling the waste pipe. The flyer records it as a design registered to MEX. The ML Basket waste is also sold separately as a spare, and a 3.5-inch waste is available as an alternative, with different codes for single-bowl and double-bowl sinks. Ask your dealer which code matches your model before ordering. Most freestanding sinks leave the space underneath doing nothing. This range offers two answers. One style carries a second shelf below the bowl on a frame 85 cm tall, which gives you somewhere to put pots and bowls. The other has a guard rail on three sides on a frame 86 cm tall, so nothing slides off the tray. Every model stands on adjustable plastic feet, so an uneven kitchen floor does not leave it rocking. The shelf, the guard rail and the stand are made from different stainless grades than the bowl; the product page of each model lists them separately. Stand the unit on level ground and set all four feet firmly before use. A drop-in sink needs a worktop first, then a measured cut-out, then a fabricator to make it — and a mistaken measurement cannot be undone. A freestanding sink stands on the floor by itself, so there is no worktop to cut and no fabricator to hire. The bowl, the stand, the shelf, the waste and a flexible drain hose all come together. It suits a back kitchen, an extension, a rented place, or a kitchen where you are not ready to commit to built-in units. The supply and drain still have to be connected to the plumbing in the building, which is a job for a plumber. The flyer does not set out the assembly steps or how long it takes, so ask your dealer if you need that detail before ordering. A shallow bowl is why water goes everywhere when you wash a large pot, and why a stockpot never quite fits. The PSL63 has a bowl 32.2 cm deep, the deepest in the freestanding range, against 17.5 to 25 cm on the other models here. The bowl measures 55.5 × 47 cm, and the steel is 0.8 mm, the thickest in the range as well. The 32.2 cm figure is the PSL63. Depths differ across the range, so check the figure for the model you are looking at on its product page. A deeper bowl also needs more clearance for the pipework underneath when it is installed.
